Name: Nate
Job Title: Client Risk Manager
How Long Have You Been with the Agency?
My time at Anderson-VanHorne started with an internship in 2018. I passed my licensing courses, then got to work as a Customer Service Representative – learning the in’s and out’s of personal insurance to start. Over the next 2.5 years, I continued my schooling at SUNY Oswego, while working part-time on summer and winter breaks. I started full time January 4th, 2021, and took on an expanded role that involves both personal and commercial insurance.
What do you enjoy most about working at our agency?
Without a doubt – the people. My fellow team members, carrier partners and of course my clients. I’ve lived in Victor my whole life – as did my parents and theirs before them. Hearing stories about the people they grew up with – then getting to work with those people as I grow in my role in insurance – it’s very fulfilling.
What’s one thing clients might not realize about your job?
Crunching numbers and quoting is not where the majority of my time is spent. Most of my day is spent on the phone talking with clients, underwriters and other team members. I pride myself on building lasting relationships.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I took up golf about 5 years ago, and every chance I get, I go play. I’m part of a Wednesday night league at Victor Hills but love to play Lima Country Club. I’m also a huge camper – my favorite spot is Rollins Pond in the Adirondacks. Most importantly, I just got married in August, and love spending time doing the things I mentioned previously with my wife, Kristen.
What is your favorite local spot in the community?
If I had to pick, I would say Boughton Park. I have fond memories fishing and kayaking there growing up. Years ago, it used to be home to an awesome rope swing!
Coffee or Tea?
Neither. I have never liked coffee, and I can’t say I’ve given tea enough of a shot to form an opinion.
Beach or Mountains?
I couldn’t choose. I love camping in the mountains – I go every year. I don’t get to the beach often, so when I do, it’s glorious.
Favorite TV Show
Anything from the Game of Thrones universe – it’s simply the best.
One fun fact
My cornhole skills are not to mess around with.
What does being part of a local small business mean to you?
My family has been part of this community for generations. Growing up, most of my friends were eager to leave. Some went to Florida, some out west. I never felt that way. I loved growing up in the Rochester area, and I’m extremely proud to be making a contribution to the community that my family calls home.
