Nine Necessities for Winter Driving
Driving during the winter months can be scary under certain conditions. Heavy snow can lead to slippery roads and cold temperatures can result in ice-covered parking lots and driveways. Aside from the physical dangers you may face while on the road, here are some items to pack in case you ever find yourself stranded in the winter cold.
Ice Scraper/Snow Brush - stranded or not, a decent snow brush is always a great way to uncover your car.
Shovel - if you ever find yourself buried in the snow, unable to move, a shovel is the best tool to dig yourself out.
Warm Clothing/Blanket/Gloves - a change of winter clothes is always a great idea to have stowed away in your car. Imagine your vehicle breaks down and you are stuck waiting for a ride. If you packed an extra set of clothes and a blanket, you'll be all set.
Salt/Sand/Kitty Litter - If there is too much snow, sprinkle a little salt to help gain traction. Don't have salt? Sand or Kitty Litter is a great alternative.
First-aid Kit - Whatever the season, a first-aid kit is always a necessity when traveling.
Windshield Wiper Fluid - With roads constantly being salted, your windshield may get dirtier than usual. Carry some extra washer fluid to make sure you never run out.
Chain/Tow Rope - Ever get stuck in a ditch or deep snow? Carry a chain and always have an exit plan, or be a helping hand.
Jumper Cables - Cold weather can have an effect on your car's battery. Always carry a set of jumper cables in case your battery dies.
Cell Phone Charger - Always keep a phone charger just to make sure you don't end up stranded with no way to call for help.
